The Berkeley Haas-SF Black MBA Association Fellowship and Berkeley Haas Equity Scholarship

The Berkeley Haas-SF Black MBA Association Fellowship (SF Black MBA Fellowship) is a program for incoming Evening and Weekend MBA students which provides mentorship, networking and community support in collaboration with members of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the National Black MBA Association.

The Berkeley Haas-SF Black MBA Association Fellowship program and related Berkeley Haas Equity scholarship were created to address disparities that exist in access to higher education based on financial and other barriers.

In partnership with the SF Black MBA Fellowship, the Berkeley Haas Equity Scholarships are monetary awards given to selected SF National Black Fellows that demonstrate commitment to increasing opportunity and access for racial/ethnic groups that are historically underrepresented in business. All Berkeley Haas-SF Black MBA Association Fellows will be considered for the scholarship, and a limited number of fellows will be selected to receive the scholarship award.

What is the difference between the SF Black MBA Fellowship and the Berkeley Haas Equity Scholarship?

The SF Black MBA Fellowship provides all of the mentorship, networking and community support outlined above. Berkeley Haas Equity Scholarships are monetary awards which are given to selected SF National Black Fellows that most demonstrate commitment to increasing opportunity and access for racial/ethnic groups that are historically under-represented in business. A limited number of Fellows will receive scholarship awards.

How do I apply for the fellowship, how do I apply for the scholarship?

You apply for the Fellowship through the application portal for the Evening and Weekend MBA program by submitting a short application which includes a 250 word required essay about how you have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to increasing opportunity and access to those historically underrepresented in business.
All Fellowship recipients will be considered for scholarship - no additional application is required.

When do I apply?

You can submit your Fellowship application when you apply to the EWMBA program. If you already applied, you can go into your portal and submit your Fellowship application. To be considered for scholarship we recommend applying as early as possible when scholarship funds are available. The final date to apply to be considered for scholarship is April 22, 2024.

What are the eligibility requirements to apply to be a SF Black MBA Fellow?

You must apply to the Berkeley Haas Evening and Weekend MBA program and complete the fellowship application which includes a 250-word essay about how you have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to increasing opportunity and access to racial/ethnic groups that are historically underrepresented in business (specifically Black/African-American, LatinX, and Native/Indigenous communities).

What are the eligibility requirements to be considered for the Berkeley Haas Equity Scholarship?

You must apply and be admitted to both the Evening and Weekend MBA program and the SF Black MBA Fellowship program. ALL fellowship recipients will be considered for the scholarship.

Do I have to live in the Bay Area to be a Fellow?

No, applicants from outside the Bay Area who plan to commute to campus or join the Flex cohort are welcome to apply to be a SF National Black Fellow.

How/when do I learn if I have been selected to be a Fellow?

Fellowships will be communicated at the time of admission to the Evening and Weekend MBA program. If you apply to be a Fellow after your admission you will be informed at the next admissions decision date.

How/when do I learn if I have been awarded a Scholarship?

Scholarships are awarded at the time of admission. If you are selected as a Fellow but are not awarded a scholarship, you may continue to be considered in later decision rounds.

Why did Haas and SF Black MBA create this program?

Berkeley Haas and the local SF Bay Area Chapter of the National Black MBA Association (SF Black MBA) share the goal of diversifying representation in business management and leadership. Berkeley Haas has been an NBMBAA educational partner, and sought to further this relationship with our local chapter, where some of our alumni are already active.
